NBA Trade Rumors: Iggy For Amare? Ray Allen To Bulls? Prince For Boozer?

February 5th, 2010 Josh Dhani No comments

More trade rumors have been stirring up…let’s give you the dish on it!

Amare Stoudemire

Right now, Amare Stoudemire has A LOT of trade rumors surrounding him. It’s even scary to think about. One possible destination has been the Sixers, who would give up Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert for the guy.

The Nets have also been an option, which is no surprise. With a shot at the first pick of the draft, they are looking forward to give that up (or in other words, give up John Wall) for Amare. Stoudemire would fit nicely to me as they build around Lopez, Stoudemire, Harris, and Douglas-Roberts.

Wizards Looking at T-Mac? Cavs, Mavs For Igoudala? Trade Rumors Rising

February 1st, 2010 Josh Dhani No comments

Trade rumors have been coming up lately. It’s time to discuss the latest I just found:

Tracy McGrady

Many teams have been eying Tracy McGrady throughout the year so far. The biggest interest is coming from the Washington Wizards, who have lost Gilbert Arenas for yet another year. It’s been since 2006 they have been satisfied fully with him. It was reported that the Wizards would give up Brendan Haywood and Caron Butler for T-Mac. The Wizards have also been eying his teammate, Luis Scola.

Found Defense, But Lost Offense?

January 31st, 2010 Mike Messiah No comments

If you’ve been following the Dallas Mavericks, you’d know that as of late, the Mavericks has been a top 10 defensive team (number 10 to be exact). The only problem with this team is finding their offense. It’s no secret: the Mavericks tend to have a slow start within the first quarter of games.

So far this season, it seems like the only real fire power to get the Mavericks started is Dirk Nowitzki. Josh Howard, who is usually the second option, is just coming back from an injury (ankle) and is still trying to find his offense. Last year’s sixth man, Jason Terry, has been very inconsistent and struggling as of late from the three-point line.

Bosh Most Likely Not To Be Traded

January 31st, 2010 Josh Dhani No comments

Well, this has been happening a lot lately. Since the last few seasons, Toronto Raptors’ forward Chris Bosh has been buzzed all over the sports world in trade rumors. This year, not of them will happen—again. Once again, the Raptors state they will not trade Bosh.

“The calls are a lot less frequent, and it’s a lot less focused on Bosh. Everybody starts with, ‘Well, apparently you’re not trading Bosh, so can we talk about so-and-so?’” Bryan Colangelo told the Toronto Star. “Our intention is, we’re not going to move him, so we’re not discussing a scenario (that includes Bosh).”

Chris Bosh even states he doesn’t want to be traded. Colangelo states that the Raptors are just focusing on winning and making the playoffs—no trade rumors surrounding Bosh. So once again folks, no trade rumors with Bosh, okay?

What to Watch: January 29th

January 29th, 2010 Reid Richardson No comments

Although there will not be an ESPN NBA Friday game tonight, it will still be a great night for pro hoops.  The evening will be headlined by Boston traveling to Atlanta, and the exciting Kevin Durant (featuring the Oklahoma City Thunder) taking on Melo and the Nuggets.

The first games of the night, tipping off at 7PM EST, feature the two best in the game: Kobe and LeBron.  Kobe and his Lakers will continue their long road trip, as they take on the Philadelphia 76ers.  The storyline for this game includes Kobe’s return to his hometown.  On the other hand, LeBron James and the red hot Cleveland Cavaliers will take on the Indiana Pacers at Conseco FieldHouse.  The Pacers are coming off of a hard fought game against the Lakers (which they lost), while the Cavs haven’t had to face much adversity this year.

The NBA’s Top Ten After Ten

November 6th, 2009 Brandon Neal No comments

After ten days of the NBA regular season, there are multiple questions, injuries, surprise performances, and disappointments.  For those first ten days, here are the top ten teams in the league.

1) Boston Celtics (6-0), wins versus CLE, CHA, CHI, NOH, PHI and MIN

The Celtics have started off hot, injury-free, and ready to win the East.  Despite a mediocre performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday night, Boston has to be on top of everyone’s power rankings to start the season off.

Next five: vs. PHX, @ NJN, vs. UTA, vs. ATL, @ IND

2) Denver Nuggets (5-0), wins versus UTA, POR, MEM, IND and NJN

Carmelo Anthony is playing like an MVP candidate, and the Nuggets remain undefeated through five games.  Something to note: rookie Ty Lawson is very good, and JR Smith has yet to return from his suspension.

Next five: @ MIA, @ ATL, @ CHI, @ MIL, vs. LAL

NBA Openers Recap, October 27th

October 28th, 2009 Brandon Neal No comments

Four games kicked off the 2009-10 NBA season tonight, and no fan was left disappointed.

Behind Kobe Bryant’s 33 points and Andrew Bynum’s 26 points and 13 rebounds, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated a Los Angeles Clippers team with a hobbled Baron Davis, 99-92.  Forwards Blake Griffin and Pau Gasol missed the game due to injuries.

In what could be called a Western Conference rivalry, the Houston Rockets fell to the Portland Trail Blazers by nine, 96-87.  Aaron Brooks led the way for Houston with 19 points and five assists, while Travis Outlaw produced 23 points off the bench for Portland.

Gilbert Arenas is healthy again, and the Washington Wizards bounced the Dallas Mavericks in their home opener by double-digits, 102-91.  Dirk Nowitzki shot the ball poorly despite adding 34 points and nine boards, while the Wizards rallied behind Arenas’ 29 points and nine assists, along with Andray Blache contributing 20 points and seven rebounds.

In what panned out to be the most interesting game of the night, the Cleveland Cavaliers were defeated by the Boston Celtics, in Cleveland, 95-89.  LeBron James did not disappoint, handing Boston a 38-point, eight-assist effort, but all of his teammates were held to under 13 points each the entire game.  Boston’s Paul Pierce led the team with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

The NBA Finals Showdown: Lakers versus Magic

June 3rd, 2009 Brandon Neal No comments

Since 1990, the Los Angeles Lakers have won seven conference titles, including their current victory over the Denver Nuggets.  Three of the six completed seasons brought an NBA championship to their franchise, all three coming in consecutive seasons.

The Orlando Magic were nothing more than an expansion team in 1990.  This would mark only their second appearance in the NBA Finals, their first coming in 1995, when Shaquille O’Neal and Anfernee Hardaway led a 57-win Magic team to the promised land, only to fall to Hakeem Olajuwon’s Houston Rockets in four games.

Things haven’t changed too much since then.  Teams dominated by a superstar, an all-star teammate and solid role players are likely to play up until, or into, the month of June, defense still gets the job done, and playoff upsets are always waiting in the wings.

Enter the 2009 Lakers and Magic.

Phil Jackson: More Questions, Less Answers

May 17th, 2009 Brandon Neal No comments

In the past, I’ve dismissed Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson from any blame in regards to the Lakers struggling in the regular season and playoffs. I did the same in 2002, against the Adelman-coached Sacramento Kings. In fact, Jackson was the last to blame during the Lakers’ loss to the Phoenix Suns, after leading the series 3-1 in the 2006 playoffs.

Times are changing, indeed.

After the embarrassing 21-3 start to Game 6 Thursday night, and the beating Los Angeles received in Houston two games ago, it’s difficult for me to not point a finger at Phil Jackson.

Despite the foul trouble Andrew Bynum seems to find himself in so quickly these days, he was essentially “fouled out” after going 0-3 from the field and picking up his third foul. Instead, Lamar Odom, who is playing through a recent back injury, played the fourth quarter for the Lakers, with Pau Gasol playing the center position, and both were non-factors on the defensive end against Houston forwards Luis Scola and Carl Landry.

No Wizardry in Washington

January 23rd, 2009 Brandon Neal No comments

For the last three seasons, the Washington Wizards have quietly declined, and for the most part, could never pick themselves back up when it mattered most.  Due to numerous injuries, a potentially-lethal trio of guard Gilbert Arenas, guard/forward Caron Butler and forward Antawn Jamison, combined with solid role players, were eventually minimized to a duo of Butler and Jamison, playing alongside what us fans call scrubs — the leftovers gathered from other teams.

It didn’t seem long ago when a fair amount of Wizards fans were declaring that Butler was an MVP candidate, for his ability to shoulder the hefty load left after Arenas fell to injury, tearing his way into the playoffs for what eventually resulted in a third consecutive loss against a more-powerful Cleveland Cavaliers team.  In fact, just last season, these Washington Wizards defeated the Boston Celtics in three of the four games they played, the only team in the NBA to win the regular season series against the eventual champions.

We all may not be Wizards fans, but we can’t help but feel sorry for the franchise — or should we not? Read more…
